If you keep running into the same patterns, fears, or reactions and can’t understand why, the answer may lie further back than you think. The wounds we carry from childhood don’t simply fade. They shape us until we tend to them with care.
No pressure, no commitment. Just a calmer first step.

Does this sound familiar?
The hurts we carry from early life rarely announce themselves. They show up in the present, disguised as patterns we can’t explain. You might recognize yourself in a few of these, or in something that isn’t here at all.
Reactions that feel too big for the moment
A small comment or situation triggers a wave of emotion that doesn't match what's actually happening. It's often a younger part of you responding to something that echoes an old wound.
Patterns you keep repeating
The same kinds of relationships, the same self-sabotage, the same dynamics that hurt you. You see the pattern, you don't want it, and yet you keep finding yourself back in it. The roots often run to childhood.
A harsh inner critic that never lets up
The cruel voice in your head often first belonged to someone else, an early message you absorbed and never stopped repeating. It can feel like the truth, but it was learned, which means it can be unlearned.
Difficulty feeling safe, worthy, or enough
A deep sense that you're not quite worthy of love, safety, or belonging, no matter what you achieve. These core beliefs usually form early, long before we have words for them.
Struggling to meet your
own needs
You put everyone else first, struggle to set boundaries, or don't even know what you need. Often, these are survival strategies a child developed to stay safe or loved, which still run long after they're needed.
A sense that something's unhealed underneath it all
You've worked on yourself, maybe for years, but there's a feeling that something deeper is still waiting to be tended to. Inner child work goes to that deeper layer.
You don't need every one of these to deserve support.
Our approach
We don’t outgrow our early experiences so much as we carry them forward. The child who felt unsafe, unseen, or not enough doesn’t disappear. That younger part of us lives on inside, and when something in the present touches an old wound, it’s often that child who reacts, who fears, who believes the old painful stories.
Inner child work is about turning toward that younger part of yourself with compassion rather than judgment. In therapy, we gently make contact with the experiences and beliefs formed long ago, and we offer them what they needed then and didn’t fully receive: safety, understanding, care. This isn’t about blaming anyone or staying stuck in the past. It’s about healing it, so the wounds you’ve carried stop running your present, and you can finally meet yourself with the kindness you always deserved.

Life during therapy
For many people, the first shift is simply realizing that the reactions and patterns they’ve struggled with aren’t character flaws. They’re old wounds, and they make sense. That understanding alone can ease a lot of self-blame.
Within the first several sessions, people often begin to recognize the younger parts of themselves at work in their present-day reactions. There’s a softening that happens when you stop fighting those parts and instead meet them with curiosity and compassion.
The bigger changes build over time, gently. The old beliefs begin to loosen their grip. The patterns that kept repeating start to shift. And you develop a kinder, more caring relationship with yourself, one that reaches all the way back to the child you once were.
Life after therapy
The old patterns loosen their hold
The reactions and cycles you couldn’t explain begin to make sense and soften. As the wounds underneath them heal, you find yourself less driven by the past and more free to choose how you respond.
Your inner voice grows gentler
The harsh criticism you absorbed long ago loses its authority. In its place, you build a kinder, more compassionate inner voice, the one the child you were always deserved to hear.
You feel more whole
The sense that something deeper was unhealed begins to ease. You meet your own needs more easily, set boundaries more naturally, and move through life with a steadier sense that you are, and always were, enough.
The child you were deserved care. It's not too late to offer it.

Good to know
The inner child is a way of describing the part of you that holds your early experiences, emotions, and the beliefs you formed as a child. When something in the present echoes an old wound, it's often this younger part that reacts. Inner child work is about tending to that part with compassion.
No. You don't need a dramatic or obviously traumatic past. Many of the wounds we carry come from ordinary experiences of not feeling seen, safe, or enough at important moments. If you notice patterns or reactions you can't explain, inner child work may help, whatever your history.
No. The goal isn't blame; it's healing. Inner child work isn't about staying stuck in the past or holding anyone responsible. It's about understanding where your patterns come from and tending to the wounds underneath them, so they stop shaping your present.
The work can touch on difficult experiences, but it's done gently and at your pace, with safety as the priority. Your therapist won't push you faster than you're ready to go. The aim is healing, not reopening old wounds without care.
