If you keep having the same fight, or you’ve drifted into a quiet distance you don’t know how to cross, you are not failing, and you are not alone. Most relationship struggles aren’t about love running out. They’re about patterns that can be understood and changed.

Does this sound familiar?
Relationship struggles rarely look like one big problem. More often, it’s a buildup of smaller patterns. You might recognize your relationship in a few of these, or in something that isn’t here at all.
The same fight, over and over
You keep landing in the same argument, just dressed up in different details. It never really resolves, you both end up hurt, and a few days later it starts again. The pattern feels impossible to break.
A distance that's crept in
You're more like roommates than partners. The connection, the closeness, the spark has quietly faded, and you're not sure when or how it happened. You miss each other even while living in the same house.
Feeling unheard or misunderstood
You try to explain how you feel and it doesn't land. They hear criticism, you feel dismissed, and the conversation goes sideways. It seems like you're speaking different languages.
A rupture that's hard to
move past
A betrayal, a breach of trust, or a hurt that keeps resurfacing. You want to move forward, but you don't know how to rebuild what was broken or whether it's even possible.
A big transition straining things
A new baby, a move, a job change, illness, blending families. Life stress has a way of pulling on a relationship, and you're feeling the strain of carrying it together while pulling in different directions.
Wondering whether to
stay or go
You're at a crossroads, and you're not sure. You want clarity about whether this relationship can work, and you'd like support to figure that out honestly, whichever way it points.
You don't need every one of these to deserve support.
Our approach
When a relationship is struggling, it’s easy to conclude that something is fundamentally wrong with your partner, with you, or with the relationship itself. But most of the time, the real issue is the pattern you’ve both fallen into. The same cycle of reaction and counter-reaction that leaves you both feeling unheard, defensive, and alone, even though you care about each other deeply.
In relationship therapy, we help you step back and see that pattern clearly, together. We slow down the cycles that keep going wrong, uncover what each of you really needs beneath the conflict, and help you learn to hear and reach each other again. This isn’t about assigning blame or deciding who’s right. It’s about understanding what’s happening between you and finding new ways to connect. Whether you’re working to rebuild closeness, repair trust, or simply communicate without it turning into a fight, change is possible when you understand the pattern.

Life during COuples therapy
For many couples, the first relief is simply having a calm, neutral space to talk with someone who can help keep the conversation on track instead of spiralling into the usual fight. Things that felt impossible to discuss at home become possible in the room.
Within the first several sessions, couples often start to see their pattern from the outside for the first time. Recognizing the cycle, rather than blaming each other, tends to soften things quickly. You begin to understand what your partner is really feeling underneath their reaction, and what you are too.
The bigger changes build with practice. The same old fight starts to lose its grip as you both learn to catch the cycle before it takes over. You begin to hear each other again, to repair after a rupture more quickly, and to feel the closeness that the conflict had been crowding out.
Life after Couples therapy
The cycle loses its grip
The same fight stops running your relationship. You both learn to recognize the pattern as it starts and step out of it, so disagreements no longer escalate into the same painful place every time.
You feel understood again
You learn to express what you actually need in a way your partner can hear, and to understand what they need underneath their reactions. The sense of speaking different languages eases into something closer to being on the same side.
Connection has room to grow
With the conflict no longer crowding everything out, the closeness can return. Whether you’re rebuilding trust, reigniting connection, or simply enjoying each other again, you move forward as a team rather than two people missing each other.
You love each other. Let's help you stop missing each other.

Good to know
You can absolutely come on your own. A lot of meaningful relationship work happens in individual sessions, where you focus on your own patterns, needs, and ways of relating. Sometimes, one person starting the work shifts the whole dynamic. You don't need both people in the room to begin.
Not at all. Plenty of couples come in not because things are falling apart, but because they want to communicate better, reconnect, or work through a specific challenge before it grows. Seeking support early is a sign of investment in the relationship, not a sign it's failing.
No. A good couples therapist stays neutral and holds space for both of you. The work isn't about deciding who's right or wrong; it's about understanding the pattern between you and helping you both feel heard. You're on the same team, and so is your therapist.
That's a valid and common reason to come in. Therapy can be a space to explore honestly whether and how the relationship can work, with support either way. The goal is clarity and care, not a predetermined outcome.
Yes. We offer online sessions across Alberta and British Columbia, which can make it easier to attend together around busy schedules. In-person sessions are also available at our Calgary office.
Our sessions are covered by most extended health plans, and we offer direct billing to a number of insurers. Coverage for couples or relationship therapy can vary, so it's worth checking what your specific plan includes for your therapist's designation.
It's a free, no-pressure conversation where we learn a little about what you're going through and help you find the right therapist for it. There's no commitment and nothing to prepare. Just a chance to ask questions and see if it feels like a fit.
In a crisis, please call 911, or call or text 9-8-8 (Suicide Crisis Helpline), available 24/7. Inspire Wellness Therapy does not provide emergency services.
