If you’re running on fumes, going through the motions, and wondering where the version of you that used to care went, you are not weak, and you are not failing. Burnout is what happens when you give everything for too long, and it’s something you can recover from.
No pressure, no commitment. Just a calmer first step.

Does this sound familiar?
It rarely arrives all at once. You might recognize yourself in a few of these, or in something that isn’t here at all.
Exhaustion that sleep
doesn't fix
You rest, but you don't feel rested. The tiredness has settled into your bones, and no amount of sleep, no weekend, no vacation seems to touch it. You wake up already depleted.
Going through the motions
You're still showing up and getting things done, but you've stopped feeling much of anything about it. The things that used to matter feel flat. You're functioning, but you're not really here.
A shorter and shorter fuse
Small things set you off in a way they never used to. You're irritable, impatient, quick to snap. You don't recognize the person reacting, and afterward the guilt piles on top of the exhaustion.
Cynicism where there
used to be care
Work, people, the things you once felt invested in, it's all started to feel pointless or draining. The hope and the enthusiasm have drained away, replaced by a heavy "what's the point" that wasn't there before.
A body that's keeping score
Headaches, tension, stomach trouble, getting sick more often than you used to. Burnout doesn't only live in the mind. Your body has been carrying the load too, and it's started to let you know.
Guilt for not being able
to keep going
You've always been the strong one, the dependable one, the one who handles it. So the fact that you're struggling now feels like a personal failure, and you push yourself even harder to hide it.
You don't need every one of these to deserve support.
Our approach
Burnout isn’t a sign that you’re weak or that you can’t handle your life. It’s the predictable result of giving more than you have, for longer than anyone could sustain. The strength that got you here, the capacity to keep going no matter what, is exactly what allowed the emptiness to creep up unnoticed.
In therapy, we start by helping you understand what’s actually happening and giving you permission to stop pretending you’re fine. From there, we work on the deeper patterns, the boundaries that went missing, the worth you tied to productivity, the habit of putting yourself last. Recovery isn’t just about rest. It’s about building a life you don’t need to recover from. You deserve that.

Life during burnout therapy
For many people, the first real relief is simply being able to admit how depleted they are, out loud, to someone who won’t tell them to push through. That alone lifts something. You’ve been carrying this for so long, often alone, that being met in it changes things.
Within the first several sessions, people often start to feel the smallest return of energy, not because anything external has changed yet, but because they’ve stopped spending so much of it on holding it all together. The fog lifts a little. Sleep gets a bit more restful. A flicker of caring comes back.
The bigger changes build over time. You start setting boundaries that protect what little you have, then slowly rebuild from there. You untangle your worth from how much you produce. And the empty that crept up on you begins, just as gradually, to fill back in.
Life after burnout therapy
Your energy comes back
Not the frantic, running-on-adrenaline version, but something steadier and more sustainable. Rest actually restores you again. You wake up with something in the tank, and the bone-deep exhaustion loosens its hold.
You feel like yourself again
The flatness lifts. The things you used to care about start to matter again. The version of you that got buried under the exhaustion, the one who felt and noticed and enjoyed, slowly comes back into focus.
You build a life with room to breathe
You learn where your limits are and how to honour them. Boundaries stop feeling like failures. You stop earning your rest and start allowing it, and you build a way of living that doesn’t quietly drain you dry.
What happened doesn't have to keep happening inside you. There's a gentle way through.

Good to know
Burnout often starts at work, but it rarely stays there, and it's rarely only about the job. Therapy helps with the deeper patterns underneath it, the boundaries, the self-worth tied to productivity, and the habit of putting yourself last. Those are exactly the things that determine whether you recover and stay recovered.
Rest helps, but burnout that's built up over months or years usually doesn't resolve with a break alone. People often return from time off and feel exhaustion flood back within days. Therapy addresses what's actually driving the depletion, so the recovery lasts.
Yes. The instinct to minimize your own struggle and put others first is often part of what led to the burnout in the first place. You don't have to be at rock bottom to deserve support. If you're running on empty, that's reason enough.
It depends on how long it's been building and what's underneath it. Many people feel some relief fairly early, simply from being able to stop pretending. Deeper recovery, the kind that changes the patterns, builds over time. We'll talk openly about what a realistic path looks like for you.
Yes. We offer online sessions across Alberta and British Columbia, and many people find it easier to fit support into an already stretched schedule when they can meet from home. In-person sessions are also available at our Calgary office.
Our sessions are covered by most extended health plans, and we offer direct billing to a number of insurers. Coverage depends on your specific plan, so it's worth checking what your provider includes for your therapist's designation.
It's a free, no-pressure conversation where we learn a little about what you're going through and help you find the right therapist for it. There's no commitment and nothing to prepare. Just a chance to ask questions and see if it feels like a fit.
In a crisis, please call 911, or call or text 9-8-8 (Suicide Crisis Helpline), available 24/7. Inspire Wellness Therapy does not provide emergency services.
