What is 2SLGBTQIA+ Therapy?

Have you ever felt unsupported or judged?

Has your identity or your relationship been questioned, challenged, criticized?

Are you looking for an affirming therapist where you can show up just as you are?

Not all therapeutic experiences are created equal. Affirming therapy provides a space, where you don’t have to hide your authentic self. This includes reducing the expectations set by others on whom they think you should be. Therapy can be tough, with many complicated, big, and often intimidating feelings to explore. Having to navigate those feelings while in a space where you do not have to hide yourself is a necessity not a luxury. Affirming care is not always about gender or sexuality, it is about having a space to navigate the challenges of being human without judgment.

Embracing who you is a necessity.

There a variety of triggers that may cause the desire to start therapy. Some of the reasons may look like:

  • Strained relationships with family and friends

  • Feeling alone and isolated

  • Unsure of who you are and where you fit in

  • Fear of judgment and rejection

  • Work difficulties

  • Anxious Feelings

How We Can Help!

All of our practitioners operate on a holistic perspective of therapy. Meaning, we will work with you in understanding the world around you in which contributes to the negative thoughts enhancing low self-confidence

Affirming therapy is rooted in a person-centred approach. Person-centred therapy is a form of talk therapy that is non-directive and encourages the client to take the lead during each session. The therapist works collaboratively with the client as a support or guide as the client navigates the session. Affirming therapy validates and advocates for individuals with minority identities, including but not limited to sexuality, gender identity, and gender expression. While many 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals’ motivations to seek therapy are much like anyone else’s, their identities often mould their experiences. Affirming therapy allows individuals to explore life's complexities while understanding the sociocultural contexts that shape their experiences.

During our work together, we will begin with an intake session. At this first session, we’ll discuss why you chose to seek therapy and your personal goals.

The therapy process holds a lot of uncertainty, and we are here to support you in every step of the way.
